Great gardening music: My Changing Planet
If you and your kids are looking for some new music to listen to this spring, check this out. Four working moms with a passion for the earth recruited musicians and songwriters to create My Changing Planet, a fun CD full of messages about playing outside, appreciating nature and taking care of the earth.
Released this spring, the CD is available at Whole Foods across the country and online (where you can also get the digital download instead). And best of all, these moms are serious about their commitment: Every penny of profits from their music sales is donated to The Nature Conservancy.
Here are some sample lyrics from one of my favorite songs on the CD, “Why Not Grow a Garden”:
Why not grow a garden
Instead of watching more TV
Why not plant some strawberries
Instead of…"aww mom there’s one more show to see."
Why not plant a peach tree
And see who’ll come and shake it
Why not grow an heirloom potato
And ask your dad to bake it
A falcon hunts small mice and things
And skunks are foragers
But when we’re hungry, we go shopping
At a market that’s indoors
Why not choose a tiny plot
NO need to go far
And you can plant the seeds you like
grow food in your backyard
And if you’re short on yard space
Don’t worry you can have your fill
Buy some planters, dirt and seeds
Grow strawberries in your window sill
Anyone can be a gardener
with water, sun and dirt
A gardener can grow anything
on THIS great planet earth
Check out My Changing Planet and let me know what you think. What are your favorite songs to garden by?
